Racing our Jaredite Barges

In seminary the kids built Jaredite barges and some were pretty interesting, the next day we took our boats across the street to race them down the river.....to see if they would really float or even go down the river! ;) One of the barges even had 16 stones in them (balls of tin foil)...even though we know that each barge only had two. I actually think they liked making the barges more than racing them.

When I was little my dad would always have us kids choose a stick and we would start at a bridge or something, throw our stick in the river and see which would get to a certain point the fastest. This was incredibly fun....or we just didn't know any better. I am continually thankful I learned how to have a blast doing simple things.....I still have that gift from my dad! I just don't understand when someone doesn't think the dorkiest things are so fun. I hope I never get 'too sophisticated'......I want to enjoy the box that my present came in more than the present....you know what I mean.....like when you were a kid. I think I will always have a kid outlook on life! I wonder if the problem with kids today is the curse of having too much.....they don't know how to have fun with a stick or a box any more.

You are so right! Erika's favorite toy was a Crest toothpaste box! Kids today to have TOO much. Wish we could look at life the way people did in the past and be grateful for what we have and not what we don't have! Thanks for the insight. Wish you had pix of the kids (Jackson) floating their Jaradite barges!
